Dakota 20 Overview
This is my review of the Garmin Dakota 20 GPS. It’s done from a geocacher’s perspective and gives a basic rundown of the features, functions and the overall feel of the unit. I purchased mine from gpscity.ca for $179.99 on a Black Friday Sale. Hopefully this vid can give perspective buyers more insight about the unit and its capabilities. Video is done with a Flip Ultra HD and a Nikon D300s with a 105mm Macro Lens for the close ups.

@monkey50cal I haven’t used it too much with gloves. And you can’t install apps on it.
how ezay have you found it to operate why wairing gloves also cun you add programs to it
@MrsRoseSteven Hi – you would use the same procedure as I mentioned below. Click “Mark Waypoint” and then “save and edit” when you click that button, you will be able to enter in your desired coordinates (if you already know what they are, like a trail head coordinate from a hiking website) and save the waypoint for that entered location. If you don’t know your desired coordinates, there is another way to “project a waypoint” but you need to know distance & bearing to do that.
Thank you very much for your reply
Basically I m trying to know how to get to specific coordinates that I have in advance. Let’s say I am in a valley or something and I want to get exactly to the location point : 46° 25′ 0″N, 7° 50′ 0″E for instance.
I have never been to that specific location before , I know it is around the area I am and I have to reach that point that is actually off road.
What could be the procedure to find it with the dakota, finding the point and memorising it ?
@MrsRoseSteven I understand you to mean “mark a waypoint.” If you click the “Mark Waypoint” icon (little guy with a red flag on an x), the GPS will tell you that your current location was saved successfully. You can either save where you are as is, or you can choose “Save and Edit” to change the coordinates of lat & long that you wish. Let me know if this helps.
Hi,
I’ d like to know In which menu do you put a specific location ( longitude,lattitude) and memorize it in advance ?
Thank you for this informative video !
@theschultzclan I went the 62S route in the end, and am very pleased with it. A few firmware quirks, but hopefully they will get irone out in time with new firmware releases.
great great great great video the best i’ve ever seen…
u made a great vid
@combatwombat71 Heheehhe… I thought about that after I uploaded the vid. Stop by for coffee!
Touch screen & buttons both have their strengths & weaknesses. For me, the decision between the dakota 20 & the 62s all came down to cash and I went the cheap route.
Moir Drive, Oxbow eh
Interesting review – I am looking at either one of these or the GPSMap62S. Not sure for either touchscreen or buttons, and which are more likely to ultimately fail.
@LittleBillee Glad you liked it!
Great vid!! I learned a few things about the 20 I did not know. Thanks for posting.
@MrElmarees No problem!
thx man !!!
