Golf is a game that is played on a large expanse of grass known as a golf course which has various slopes and hills, wooded areas, rivers or lakes to negotiate and has holes (usually 9 or 18) into which golf balls have to be hit. A game of golf is won by the player who manages to get his or her ball into the holes in the least number of shots. When a game of golf begins each player takes it in turns to tee off from the designated spot for each hole which is known as the teeing box and taking this first shot is known as driving the golf ball.

Driving a golf ball is one of the most important shots in golf so it is vital that you get your drive right. Having a good drive means that your ball will get closer to the hole and hopefully put you in a position to complete the hole in the minimum number of shots required – known as the par. Driving a golf ball well requires skill and patience which can only be developed over time playing the game.

There are of course tips that will help you to drive a golf ball further down the fairway towards the green and these should be followed and adapted so that you are playing to your potential and lowering your handicap. Golfers should perfect their swing in order to ensure that they are driving a golf ball as far as they can from the teeing off position. This process should always begin with a backswing to gain height to the swing, a downswing in which the club strikes the ball and finally the follow through – so if you get this right you will be driving down the fairway with confidence.
