There is a big choice of car GPS units available on the market these days. So it pays to shop around, although the selection can be overwhelming. If you are looking for a higher end system that offers live updates and good connectivity, then the Garmin Nuvi 755T may well fit the bill for you. It is a really easy to use device with lots of features since it can connect to MSN direct to give info regarding any problems about the proposed route to be taken, that might be of significance to you whilst traveling. These functions all help the user to reach their destination with ease and no confusion along the way which always makes for a pleasant trip.

The screen is quite wide and enables the user to view something like 3-4 streets ahead of time of the current position. In addition, it has text to speech and provides lane assistance. It includes a currency converter, a calculator along with a memory card slot, which allows playback of mp3s as well as enables the user to look at photos transferred from their own personal computer. Also, there are some songs that can be downloaded from the Garmin website, free of charge. The trip assistance from the unit is very helpful since it even gives the mileage of the automobile and also the gas prices at local gas stations. The information contained on the device such as maps, routes, addresses etc can be backed up on both, a Mac and a PC.

The route to be taken can be very easily customized by telling the device what to avoid in the various steps to be followed to reach the destination, like U-turns, Interstates, Toll roads and so on. The weather assistance module as well as shows current conditions at numerous places. There are also displays ads that may be helpful towards the driver. The speed limit information on the Nuvi 755T is quite precise and the route recalculation, when there’s a detour, or if the wrong turn is taken, can also be pretty fast. The traffic help of the device is of excellent significance as it helps in avoiding routes with difficult traffic and highways closed as a result of construction etc instantly.

The device has a good favorites feature. Places that have to be reached often can be added to the favorites area from the menu and then triggered whenever they might be required which is really useful. However not so useful is that as soon as saved, the list then displays only the street names of the destinations within the favorites area and not the town/city name, which is not always convenient for the driver. Having said that, the fact that favourites are regularly traveled known areas means this will not be too much of a problem. A downside is that the device does not necessarily display the names of various towns that are being crossed during traveling, even though the screen has enough space to fit in such data. Another fairly minor drawback is that the names of some small water bodies such as rivers and lakes are not acknowledged by the device. This could be somewhat lacking, since the individual may discover a place very attractive someplace along his route and would wish to go there one day in the future, but he won’t be able to do so as he is not aware of what the location is really called.

On the practical operating side it is generally easy enough to use. However the release button is placed in the base of the GPS mount which makes it hard to detach from the windshield attachment. The voice is not particularly loud, the FM transmitter is not always perfect and the screen colours are not customizable either should you require that feature. The keypad of the touch screen has quite small buttons that can make input by fingers a somewhat difficult task. Consequently a stylus has to be used for this purpose.

However the nuvi 755T is similar in many respects to other car GPS navigator units with live updates as its best feature. But it’s pricier when it is compared to some alternative options although you should find some bargain prices if you shop around. Overall if cost isn’t too much of a concern to you, this product could be well worth buying for all the good things it has to provide.
