A quick look at the new tomtom Go 520 and the Garmin Nuvi 200. The tomtom 520 has Bluetooth hands-free, FM Modulator, Text to Speech, voice recognition, and much more. The Nuvi 200 is a much more basic Sat Nav, but for a to b navigating, what’s the difference? www.sciuridae.co.uk

i hate the non qwerty garmin. :/ but its a sacrifice…
Garmin is simpler to use and cheaper, you can pick up a used one on ebay for around 50 bucks
ur wrong, tomtom costs less
The Garmin is much simpilar to use. My grandma can figure out how to use a Garmin. The TomToms are stupid, more expensive, and alot harder to use than Garmins. If you want a Wide screen and an awesome GPS than Go with the Garmin Nuvi
wich one comes with the computer dock and/or fm transmission? can i load music on it and transmit over radio?
Have a garmin but nead a easy set speed alert option for my business. Buying a $150 Tom Tom at walmart. And want a Qwerty keyboard on cheap Tom Tom units.
Thank you for the vid – very useful
How could you compare an entry level garmin on a mid range tomtom? Ofcourse the better choice is the tomtom but put together a tomtom go 520 with a garmin 8xx, a tomtom would be no match..beyond compare..
So which is better?
I guess it’s dangerous to say anything bad about garmin judging from all the negs given to those that have. This in itself helped me make my decision.
I hate my TT 520 because it keeps turning on by it’s self which means everytime i go 2 use it the battery is dead. I google searched it & it’s a common problem THANKS VERY MUCH TT.
in the UK you dont have to drive very far, its a tiny country
i like the garmin i waaaay bettar
I have a garmin, tom tom, and a magellan so I don’t need to choose….
I just bought a tomtom go 730 two weeks ago and I’m hoping someone can teach me how to start my search by address first instead of city. This is so important for me if you know how to do it let me know please.
I owned a Garmin nuvi360 had it for over a year, wanted me to turn off a cliff on a direction to a park. So I bought a cheap tomtom one 3rd edition..and love it.. Used it for only 5 months. Just sold my garmin, staying with tom tom..
the tom tom is better then the garmin
I had a tomtom one
and a garmin 250
AND THAT FUCKIN GARMIN SUCKS
You should do this demo but with a couple of celebrity voices. I would always recommend Mr. T from Navtones but the choice is yours.
Great demo. I think I favor TomTom but I think that’s because TomTom was the first GPS I had. Nice one.
****WARNING****
Shoppers: TomTom’s no longer offer FM transmitting of voice instruction but TomTom & its retailers continue to FALSELY ADVERTISE the feature.
Existing TomTom users: if you update firmware above 8.01 you LOSE the feature also. TomTom has disabled this feature for the entire world. Garmin, took a much more logical approach & only disabled it in 2 European countries that ban FM tranmission.
BUY THE GARMIN – better maps and no tricky updates or false advertising.
My father in laws tom tom died in less than six months, so I bought a Garmin and so far I love this device. I have also read on the net that other tom toms have over heated from being plug in to long and stop functioning. be careful with tom toms save backup data in case they crash or you will have to buy their expensive maps online, just a word of warning I had to repair one of these once it froze on splash screen and was a night mare to get it functioning again.
WARNING:
Shoppers: TomTom’s no longer offer FM transmitting of voice instruction due to laws in Europe they have DISABLED FM Transmitting for the entire world.
Existing TomTom users: if you perform the necessary firmware update above 8.01 you will LOSE FM transmitting of voice instruction. TomTom has disabled this feature for the entire world. You can always tell the people who haven’t got a clue what they’re doing because they always have a sat nav.
Atorax,
Well that does seem a little odd. Interstate data that’s two years old should definitely be on there. I live in FL and I’ve never had a problem with data. I will be going skiing in NC soon, so I’ll see how that goes. Please give me an address near this Interstate you speak of… i’d like to see for myself.
I constantly hear people complain about tomtom’s screwed up maps that if they didn’t have constant updates, they’d probably be out of business… which isn’t the case with garmin.
Garmin is Garbage!! TomTom is the world’s Best!! Gar-min-bage very difficult to operate, suckie software can’t custom voices, or load POI easily. Don’t buy Garmin, get TomTom.
